Monsters University (2013) Movie Review - Agis (English)

Director: Dan Scanlon
Main Cast: Billy Crystal, John Goodman
Duration: 104min
Category: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Nerdsperados Rating: Agis 8

Monsters University comes to serve as a prequel to the much successful Monsters, Inc.. Most of our beloved monsters don't even know each other. The story this time around starts from really early, Mikes school years and the time he makes the decision to go to the Monsters University, and as soon as we are there we are getting introduced to both new and familiar characters and the main goal for most of the is to become the best scarer.

The movie's plot is a pretty much classic university/college centred story (I can even call it an American Pie for kids) but it is done so well and clever. As I say classic university story, I mean, we see classes... but with monsters, parties... but with monsters, games... but with monsters, fraternities and sororities... but with monsters, (I hope you are getting where I am going with this)(Okay one more) pranks... but with monsters.Everything feels familiar but also different.

The best thing about this movie are the characters, every one of them. They are well modelled, with interesting and different personalities, and voiced extraordinary. The movie doesn't really have a main villain, only some basic rivalries and as always a somewhat evil dean. (Because Deans are always a bit evil as seen by the students).

Animation wise all movements are perfect, so are the models and the textures, all that as the movie is some months old everything is top notch and you can really enjoy some fast sequences and character movements.

In general the film is really good, it fills the shoes of it's predecessor and explores some different paths. The thing that I really love about this movie are it's characters every single one of them really makes the movie not just enjoyable but lovable, it's also filled with cameos of characters from the previous movie (or from the next movie, or... whatever) that they will really bring a smile on your face. My main problem with this... film... is... that... I miss Boo. Oh Boo you were the cutest little kid in movies.

It's well spent one and a half hours , it may not be as good as the first one but Pixar reminds us who is the king in animation movies. (All hail the king)
